Tips for good cat care this summer

Summer is synonymous with long, hot days that many of us enjoy to the fullest. However, for our cats the heat can be a challenge.

Here are some tips to ensure your feline stays cool, comfortable and healthy during the hot season.

1. Constant hydration

Fresh water is essential. Make sure your cat always has access to clean, fresh water. Consider placing several drinking fountains in different parts of the house and, if possible, use cat water fountains that keep the water moving, as many cats are attracted to running water.

2. Cool and shaded environments

Provide cool, shaded areas where your cat can shelter from the heat. Keep curtains closed during the hottest part of the day and use fans or air conditioning to maintain a comfortable temperature indoors.

3. Beware of high temperatures

Avoid letting your cat outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. If your cat enjoys spending time outdoors, make sure he or she does so early in the morning or in the evening when temperatures are milder.

4. Regular cleaning

Brushing your cat regularly helps remove excess hair and prevents hairballs from forming, which is especially important in summer. This is crucial for long-haired cats, as keeping their coat free of tangles and knots improves circulation and keeps them cooler.

5. The right cat litter

During the summer, cat litter can be a major factor in your cat's comfort. High temperatures can increase odours, so it is essential to choose a quality litter. Our cat litters Picky and MyCAT are excellent choices. These litters are designed to offer superior odour control and high absorption, keeping the litter box cleaner and fresher for longer.

6. Controlled games and exercise

Summer should not be an excuse for your cat to stop playing and exercising, but it should be done with care. Avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest part of the day. Play with your cat in the morning or in the evening, and make sure he has interactive toys to keep him active without overheating.

7. Veterinary check-up

A visit to the vet at the beginning of the summer is a good practice. This will ensure that your cat is in perfect health and you can receive specific recommendations for their care during the hot season.

Summer can be a wonderful time for both you and your cat if you take the right steps. Keep your feline well hydrated, cool and comfortable. And remember, a good choice of sand is also key to their health. Your cat will thank you!
